Naida Grunden, LLC

Author of two Shingo prize winning works, Naida L. Grunden has been a professional writer for more than 20 years. Naida has spent the past decade documenting the increasing acceptance of Toyota-based processes (Lean) in healthcare. Her first book, The Pittsburgh Way to Efficient Healthcare, captured the seminal work of the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative (PRHI) during the introduction of Lean in competing hospitals across southwestern Pennsylvania. She received the American College of Clinical Engineering challenge award for her contribution to the clinical engineering profession.

Her most recent endeavor in collaboration with HPP President Charles Hagood, Lean-Led Hospital Design: Creating the Efficient Hospital of the Future, places the spotlight on the facilities within which healthcare is delivered to patients. It was recently awarded the Shingo Prize for its thorough analysis and justification of why facility design is critical to improving processes of care.
